Polyethylene terephthalate (PET)

Polyethylene terephthalate (PET) is a polycondensation product of ethylene glycol with terephthalic acid (or its dimethyl ester); it is a hard, colorless, transparent material in amorphous state and the white opaque in crystalline state.

Properties: PET has good heat resistance in the temperature range from -40 °C to + 200 °C. Small water absorption results in a high stability of properties and dimensions of products. Products made of PET are resistant to impact and cracking, and can be operated at temperatures up to + 70 °C. PET minimally adsorbs odours and manifests the properties of good gas barrier.

PET is mainly applied for manufacturing of preforms of various types, which are then used for production (blown after heating) of plastic containers of various types and purposes (primarily plastic bottles). PET also has broad commercial application in the form of synthetic fibers and films and articles produced from plastic material by extrusion and injection molding
